Going Organic
July 25, 2008 No CommentsIt’s all the rage aint it? organic this and organic that, going green, eco friendly, however I’m not talking garden variety although I do have FarmersGarden.co.uk and GreenPortal.co.uk to sell, I’m on about organic listings in search engines, SEO, the old and current method of getting your sites and pages in front of those searching on popular keywords and the goods you’re trying to shift.
I was speaking with John, my broker and he was telling me that while street sales were slowing and coming to an halt that online sales were still surging ahead. It’s true I read the same in the rags but having spoken to a few retailers and dropshippers they’re hinting to slower sales and that the economy’s effects are beginning to hit them. As we all know, its easier to spend cash online hence the differering situations. I’m looking, eventually, to get back into affiliate marketing so I’m finding it all a little interesting. I’m biding my time, I did say in an earlier post that something will turn up soon, something big.
More so due to one comment, this being that there aren’t enough affiliates in the uk, a staggering comment which I am going to ask more about. Apparantly most do PPC these days which is leaving organic listings open to being raped by someone who used to be rather good at it, namely me – I was, honest, I just ran out of ideas for websites and didn’t quite ‘get’ PPC so moved into domains proper. I thought the game was full of affiliates these days, I’m not counting however there are a ton of merchants aside from the few that went bust in the last months, 6000 plus merchants to advertise and generate traffic to.
It is however ideas that’s the problem, I have 1000 domains give or take a hundred, I have my network that really deserves more attention, I haven’t touched it since February. I was the creator of IHateCrazyFrog.co.uk the devil frog with images, horns and a fork nicked from Jokers Masquerade – I bet they don’t know that, Jamster simply stole the image and put it on the site without even a thank you so I didn’t tell them I stole the image’s wares from another merchant, nice of them eh? Nice of me. I did over £15,000 with them in three months so I can’t complain, others did £60,000+ in the same amount of time, again probably selling on my version of the frog. Bastards.
I’m not bitter, I was also the creator of CrazyFrogFanClub.com – people couldn’t believe the audacity, crazy frog had a fan club, of course it wasn’t official but it worked and sold what it was supposed to, I’ve got the sites hidden away somewhere, should have kept them live but I did a server move and haven’t been arsed to put them back up again. I need staff… there was a time when ringtones were big, probably still are but not for me.
It’s finding the right product, I always excel on the quirky, something I can really develop around and make fun and enjoy, I could probably sell lawn mowers on mowed.co.uk but I’d have to find a funny way of doing it and it’s web 2.0 these days, social sites, it’s all above me, “so learn” you say but really I still use frontpage I can’t adapt, I can however I find it all a little difficult. Simple aint I or rather I prefer it simple.
I have to sit down at some point, look through all the merchants that exist today, see if I can rope mates here into joining in as I was supposed to a few blog posts back, select domains and see where we end up, it’s money, it’s delayed money, 45 to 60 days before you see it, even then sales can get cancelled, it is money. It takes time to get in the engines, for the traffic to come, it isn’t without a lot of work, although if you get £4k a month later for 90 hours in a week who’s going to moan?
Squillions has to find the product and get doing what it used to, market, seo, produce something funny. Britain hasn’t got enough affiliates, I think it has, they just got professional, found a lot of money and forgot their roots – how many times have we heard that scenario, how many times have we seen someone go back to their roots be simple and wipe the floor with their competition, time for Squillions to bite back me thinks. “Yeah, yeah, see if the lazy git Lee does anything first!!”
