On The Move

Credit crunch packing a punch? The one thing I like about my life at present is the options I have, go back a few years and I was stuck living with my mum, God rest her soul, with no way on to the property ladder, no way of surviving on my own, growing a business and at the same time whittling the money away online gambling, drinking and going football carrying a debt or two, it was a life but nothing to be proud of.

Options are good if they make you happy, having to make decisions in life show at least that you’re alive and living, what are they? OK, when I moved to Bucharest - a city and country I’d never been to before, the empty unfurnished apartment I was after moving into had gone so was homeless upon arrival, maybe they didn’t believe I was flying in three days. Who would? mates here didn’t at all until they saw me.

Alas the place I live in now which is a very roomy two bed, two bathroom, big kitchen, balcony, airy apartment but it could do with a new kitchen, new furniture and some decorating and quite frankly after seventeen months I’ve had enough, it’s too big for me and the two cats however at a bargain 500 euros – currently about £391, don’t hold your breath that could be £420 or £375 in the next ten minutes on the conversion – I will be sad to leave but it’s not mine to redecorate or furnish.

Yes the options, stay and spend my next lot of money on new furniture for the living room and buy new kitchen, landlord says he will decorate and put in more double glazing and new lino but with mates talking about all moving to Spain next year, it’s furniture that I can’t take with me. Next option stay and put up with it for another few months, until after Christmas at least and go on Holiday, some of you already know what the possibilities are there but too many complications some I am willing to overcome however moving may be my best solution.

I’ve been looking, it’s not cheap anymore, I took a butchers at an empty house just down the road from the second largest building in the world, 500 euros empty (which is good), bad (no real) kitchen, bad bathroom, worse than here, at least the only problem here is old furniture and decoration and by that I mean communist era. Tomorrow, Wednesday I’ll go look at a place around the corner from Cismigiu Park, more central, two rooms, one bathroom, no pics so I have to take a peek.

I’m not hopeful that it’ll be exactly what I want as I have a feeling it’s at the wrong end of the road however move I must, as I want guests this Christmas and it’s difficult with the current place. I have seen one place further out at Drumul which is near or close by to the bigger Plaza Mall, which is an option also. I really want to go on holiday with this girl so if I can find another £500 I can still move and go to this other country for  a few weeks, sworn to secrecy, such is life and relationships.

And such is the internet, the President will tell his Doctor, she will tell my mate, her child overhears, he tells everyone at nursery, his friend tells her mum, my mate’s sister and I’ll be in the doghouse again – you have to be careful but between you and me, it might be Italy for two weeks. I’d like to move, I’d also like to go on holiday, at present I’m governed by the heart so ideas change from hour to hour.

So to find the other £500 if I end up moving, wishing to still holiday. I had a lower offer on DesignHub.co.uk and some vague interest “how much?” on ImIn.co.uk but no reply or offer as of yet should they sell in the next fortnight that covers some last minute sunshine and some quality time with a girl I very much enjoy the company of. It’s nice to have options, the annoying part of all this is the fact this is a roomy and cost effective apartment for the space, just the decoration lets it down and that’s no way to live. Hopefully one way or the other, holiday, new apartment or both, I am on the move.
