The Week That Was

October 31, 2008 No Comments

Time is flying by, I didn’t work on the websites much – if at all to be honest. I said I would but it’s difficult changing a lazy mindset which is why I’ve kept missing the Christmas run up for the last several years, 2004 was the last blinder. I was 27, I think. At least I’m now finally financially capable of now financially paying off my finances for the month. I think. I am good at numbers, honest. Although admittedly until I do a £4600 sale again, outstanding will have a double meaning.

In the next seven days I will pay the rent again, several hundred to catch up, I’ll pay the mortgage, again a few hundred to catch up. I’ll settle a bill or three and then see what is left for play time, if any is afforded me. I haven’t been away since Campulung which was 2/3/4/5/6 October. Now just to wait for the money to come in from the ‘Grand Old Day.’ £508 inbound from all over the world, Truro to Tokyo.

The letting agent paid me today which brings a little happiness, I bought me best mate a money box and a couple of blankets, I can’t go into too much detail – in’ernet innit – so safe to say she’ll be happy, I ended up with about 22 pence in English money after splashing out so seeing the rent money was kind of a result. I was expecting £75 in cash in my bank today but you didn’t pay, why? Hope all is well Mr Lancashire. Funny, I just noticed that county has cash in the middle. Does he live in the middle?

Halloween.org.uk is performing, I only caught the domain recently so couldn’t make tens of thousands out of it this year but I will in 2009. On parking it had traffic, mainly from yahoo but google has indexed it now and affiliate sales are incoming, one or two. INCOMING, hoo-aaa. The main thing is if I leave it, the site should get out of event traffic on the keywords so a late set up but will earn itself a place in my top ten performing websites by the end of the year I feel.

What else has been going on? ND, end of the month and $57.36 to be paid mid November. No it’s not a lot but pays for most of the monthly hosting for my sites and remember I did switch 80 odd domains to my host nameservers and revenue went up at both ends, thanks to some high clicks, granted – see previous blog entry. If I sound relaxed, I am, I’m a little naughty as I was spending money on other things instead of my rent however my sanity needs preserving. I am relaxed now thanks to outgoings being covered so thanks to you all and if you didn’t reply to my sales email, then well grrrrr you gits.

Affiliate sales are steady, I still don’t do a lot but I will be shortly. There’s a competition or two, one told by Entrepreneur.co.uk involving an holiday to Dubai which I fancy winning. George writes about me enough times in a week, it’s about time I linked back to say thanks. I’ve not been catching much lately, mainly due to cash flow but also due to bills mounting up at Nominet’s end which need paying. They’ll grant more credit but I don’t want it. I don’t even have a credit card these days – are you bonkers?

A little story for you on the catching front, I scrolled through the list of domains dropping today, quite late and spotted SummerCatalogue.co.uk and WinterCatalogue.co.uk were pregnant. I looked up WinterCatalogue.co.uk had dropped and was born again, waah waah and I’m unsure now whether it was unregged (due to the tag) as I may have mistyped but at the time it did seem free, I thought I’d be clever and leave it that way so as not to draw attention to the reg until Summer came along and I’d get them both…

It didn’t work out that way, whether it was free to reg or not when I looked or mistyped, Summer dropped soon after I went back for Winter. The whole plan was leave Winter and get Summer as a catch, go back for Winter and then reg Autumn and Spring. Nokta got SummerCatalogue.co.uk on the drop then I saw WinterCatalogue.co.uk was regged, hand or caught I’m still unsure – maybe the registrant address difference reveals the situation better - so in hot pursuit I regged AutumnCatalogue.co.uk and SpringCatalogue.co.uk as planned.

Anyone who’s anyone knows Spring and Autumn are the catalogue most named but also anyone who’s anyone knows unless you got £5k Nokta aint selling or replying so they with their two and me with my two, I’m in good company especially if a buyer wants the set. I have MyMagazine.co.uk and Catalogued.co.uk (my mistake I sold that to Dave) so I’m an happy bunny either way. As it’s Halloween, perhaps I’m an happy bunny with a machete and a toothpick.

The revshare with the gambling partner was poor, I mean to say it’s not bad when I do little to justify the remuneration apart from banner visibility on all my sites continually, life time payout means lifetime, next month’s payout is a little low though. I get them the odd sign up a few times a month but nowhere near enough to sustain several thousand in share rev each month, as I’ve done in the past. Yeah yeah the past – make money now twit!!!

I’m rambling, time to sew this post up. I may have sold some additional services to a few new clients this week, I do better at add on sales than a massage parlour some days and hopefully the additional income will allow me to build on recent work completed and successes achieved. I think some quality time with a lady friend beckons this weekend, a film, a cuppa and a cake, darrrling. The week that was. Maybe another grab a grand day follows in November. Effin hope so. Ta ra chuck.

*I forgot, the reason for the catching story being told, if you see a domain free that you like, don’t dither, reg it or lose out.
