By the time I was 27 I was 17 stone, yeah I know, what the hell happened there, working from home, no real social life apart from football, it digs its heels in, so fell in love – supposedly, had the dream, stopped smoking, sorted finances out and lost over 4 stone in several months. I did run the updates from a domain ilose.co.uk which can be reread here.

If you read that link you’d know I ended up 12 stone 8lbs, in actual fact in August of 2007 I achieved 12 stone 4lbs and that is my current target and more as I’m getting off my fat lardy arse and getting down the gym. Reading Twitter you’ll see I joined three times in the last year but never actually went, so I did things the right way round this time, bought the running shoes first, as that’s what I enjoy, jogging but I think that machine will make me do more than jog.

I’m currently 13 stone 3lbs, I would like to be and I am going to be at least 12 stone by the end of August, I know it gets harder but as it’s been a while I’m hoping it’s achieveable. I’m hoping to run twice a day, an hour or more each morning and night, I did start smoking again so that may hamper the initial efforts. However I will persevere.

I feel better about myself this week, I’m unsure why. Perhaps it’s because the house is almost sold – had the offer, that I’m almost back on top money wise, some to go but if I can keep the sales coming over the next three weeks, I will be back on top just need to stay on top so while everything is going on in the background, I thought I’d get focused on something and gym was the plan, I have a lot of time on my own at the moment and I flat refuse to return to the days of sitting in front of the pc gaining weight again.

So from tomorrow it begins, from previous experience I should lose 5lbs this week and hit around 12.12 / 12.13, thereafter around 3lbs a week, so within a fortnight should be down to a comfortable with afternoon meal, 12st 10lbs, if I’m hovering around that then I’ll be happier. Then I’ll know at end of August if my aim of being 12 stone is possible, it’s a long month, it isn’t February nor June so I’ve chosen well I think. Wish me luck!! Ciao. (I’m not a toff, they do say that in Romania – then again, maybe Romanian toffs say it!?!)

What’s the current situation? Well let’s look at what life was like when it was business as usual and compare it to now. Business as usual involved clever affiliates buying related keyword domains, niche and traffic so as to develop websites and minisites that could advertise merchants that were on affiliate networks either via engines or ppc, this was an easy concept for most to understand and I did good business with quite a few.

In the not so distant past, any catchy name with the related keywords in would almost certainly sell and at a price, the worth was dictated by the interest, as always, an affiliate knew with a little SEO, understanding of user searches and some good content, combined with the domain name being user friendly, appealing and directly associated that this would help with sales and CTR and make a pretty good impression with visitors.

Nothing has changed in that respect and I should try to get feedback on this I suppose but I’m getting the feeling that despite my clients in affiliate marketing still making hundreds of thousands a year, that the majority aren’t quite making the turnover required to expand their niche or domain holdings so as to increase their income, that’s what I assume.

Domain names with keywords in used to be an affiliates dream, that was my thinking when in the game. If I was doing something with ringtones, then I’d register a domain as closely related as possible and put a site up, when advertising on ppc, it’s much better to advertise a related domain in the url also rather than something tedious or not so catchy.

The situation now is that I’m still catching those same type of domains but I am finding it harder to shift on to affiliates with the same savvy and understanding that I had, reseller hosting is the same cost, more merchants are online than at any other time in history, datafeeds are the easiest to use, more software on hand to make the job simpler, yet for the life of me I am unable to match domains to affiliate needs and requirements… or is it that they just don’t have the hundreds to spend with me at the moment? And right now they don’t even need hundreds as I’m lowering to compensate. Shhhh.

Not always lowering as some are simply too good to let go. I have even started catching specifically for certain affiliates and merchants to cater for their needs, I’m no longer appealing to the masses for sales and instead chasing after the more focused business, smaller but regular business to ensure I stay in business, so how’s about all these other affiliates? When did they get off the boat and when will they get back on?

Only time will tell I guess or is it a matter of education? A thousand domains drop every day and for the likeminded they’re paradise in a box, I pick out 50 a day that are good for minisites, if I was catching for a client with a more specific tangent, I could probably match a dozen of them with twenty related domains a day without any trouble.

In my book and obviously the way I see it, a merchant would get all the domains related to their business and put minisites on them, an affiliate manager or agency for that merchant would buy up all related domains and pass them for use to affiliates to utilise solely or mainly with their client, one of mine does that already – he’s a great affiliate manager, not always fair to say solely as not always easy building a site with one merchant in mind but asking for 60% coverage isn’t wholly unacceptable.

Then we have SEO companies, they would benefit hugely from having a wealth of domains at hand to aid in their marketing and keyword use as would any ppc company. Likewise the networks. And affiliates, for there are thousands, their investment in a keyword related domain would return and if they’re good, give them £50 to £100 minimum a month from a weeks work and within a reseller package… it’s a no brainer.

So how’s affiliate marketing for you? the affiliate, the merchant, the agency, the ppc and seo company, did you all lose a lot of money, have sales dropped that much that you dropped the ball on domain names as well? So now for the current situation and taking advantage, a thousand domains drop every day, some of these will be perfect for working with many merchants on affiliate networks, the clever affiliate would be looking to get these domains, the clever agency would be too, as would the savvy merchant. Are they? Not many I can assure you as I am at the very front of the domain industry.

Education required or just money? A lot of my clients have grown with the domains I have sold them, grown in knowledge, in income and have started buying more specific general domains, those I supply as well and with the catch of kitchenappliances.co.uk and sale of within two days, that’s clear to see, however lower down the chain, domains like flightshotels.co.uk still do a good trade and is looking very nice these days.

I think there’s a point when you have to realise that as a domainer I am still doing the same job and I’m better at it but the demand has slowed right up, no doubt there’s more competition these days in landing domains, I’ll admit there’s more going in for them, however they all have their own ideas on domain worth and appeal and I still chase the ones I have always gone after, I clash with a handful of others in that aspect but not many of the them.

So if I haven’t changed, then affiliates have, recession is a likely effect, alternatively many of those I dealt with have been in the game a long time, amassed a wealth of .co.uk and probably have their operations at a nice smooth flow, so I need new customers, to get new customers I need to advertise the potential of having the domains I can catch for them or sell on so when I wake up, I should start the class and get together the right tutorial for mass affiliate, merchant and agency education. Amen.

When I did rise this afternoon I found I had caught KitchenCounter.co.uk (LEEOWEN) I’m very happy with that, for the last week I have been loading one name at a time with very little success and in return for my efforts made very little money so I decided to return to what works best for me, chuck in the top names and stay lucky.

I just sent the domain out to my email list, see if anyone fancies it. OK so it’s not product specific, a kitchen counter doesn’t get sold alone, granted however it is perfect for selling anything in a kitchen, why? because everyone uses the kitchen counter, they place their keys on it, morning, noon and night, they may have a couple of stools on the side, chat, eat, anything and everything occurs around the kitchen counter.

So what else have I been up to? I’ve started twittering at twitter.com/squillions which is a lot of fun, you can tell people your thoughts in an instant, you got to be careful not to spam your own board though as I think a lot. As I write this, I just picked up PrivateSurveillance.co.uk (LEEOWEN) that’s two of the top six or seven names of the day that I’ve caught so far.

As I haven’t updated domains caught for a while, I’ll list some catches below dating back to February 2009, there’s a few and I have been selling still. Before I leave you lovely people, I went Bestfest.ro again this year and by far the best night of the festival was Aftershock, I went out to see HolyHell who sounded fantastic on myspace, they were a real treat but thousands upon thousands turned out to see Manowar and now I understand why, even though their sound system broke down twice, the show was very entertaining.

It was my Birthday a week ago, I went with a friend to see the Killers also at Bestfest, they were ok but I think they need a few more albums under their belt before they can provide a set to rival others as I only knew a few of their songs, showgirls like Pink etc. roll out excellent songs one after another, The Killers only have a few. You’ve got to make the most of life haven’t you? Especially after recent events and it came closer to home last night when the girlfriend was involved in an incident with a car, as a passenger, she’s alright. nothing serious – apparantly – but serious enough for me to worry, I only usually worry about the next holiday and if we’ve got enough to eat.

We’re off to see the Killers tomorrow at Bestfest - I’ve been each year since I arrived in 2007, it’s always good entertainment, they’ve changed it around this year, no more stage clashes and mostly in the evenings than the weekend. Romania is having a wet summer so far so can only hope the rain holds off, great thunderstorms, it gets so hot, just a shame the rain don’t go back to Gloucester.

Back to my Birthday, I’m not sure what I’m getting, hopefully some new business but I’m thinking maybe Romanian language lessons would be a good idea as I’ve been here over two years and still aint learned the lingo, getting there but can’t string many sentances together, ******* immigrants. Smiley. The other thing would be gym membership, I’ve had gym membership for four different months since I’ve been here and not gone once, shameful really, I have such a beautiful girlfriend, I should do my bit and stay fit.

I’ll do another post later and update with latest business and domains caught, it’s nice to be back blogging, also good to be out of the last hosts, saving £400 a year and have knocked websites on the head for a bit, wasn’t turning much anyway as haven’t had time to put the effort in lately, mind you never did, stuck on domains to be honest.

I am at the point where I hardly know what day it is and I’m laying around the house eating while working, as that’s what I do and I’m getting fat, I should go down the gym, after all I pay for it and it is only across the road but nope, still here figuring things out. New clients, yes I’ve brought a few new clients on board and I’m trying to work with them to supply their needs as well as my own, it’s not easy as I have to get my own domains to sell and stay alive in this very competitive world but it’s ticking. I may have missed one or two out but that’s the bulk of the catches, new purchases and registrations, if you’re keen on one I did catch and it’s not listed then it’s probably a clients. For instance imagine me loading a request for transactions.co.uk – which I did, thinking I’ll never get it and waking up a few hours later and finding I have, gutted – there goes my quick flip of the month providing £xxxx. I’m just too bloody honest sometimes.

I have a target of £2000 for this week and with four days left it’s looking like it may still be possible but only time will tell, I’m pushing a few domains hard, recent catches, usa-visa.co.uk and water-proof.co.uk and chauffeurdrivencarhire.co.uk appears to be a popular phrase and term so when I shift them that’s a bit of money already in. What do I like? I think PrivateTransfers.co.uk (LEEOWEN) is blinding, its a widely indexed term as well.  I shifted SignedBy.co.uk early on, I did like that a lot also.

YouthDevelopment.co.uk has potential, teenagemums.co.uk appeared exciting at first, grew out of all proportions and may well cry a lot over the next few months, refs.org.uk won’t be popular, may get a lot of abuse for 90 minutes but overall the domain will serve it’s purpose and bring forth a result either way. Beautysite.co.uk is sitting pretty, usa-visa.co.uk is about to fly and beirut.org.uk is still in the middle of a rebuilding effort.

Oh yes, I said I’d been cooking. I have, I know a fantastic girl and she’s got me interested in food again. I’ve been buying some quality beef and waxing lyrical about my favourite meal, here’s what you need to do. Fry a beef steak or two in a small amount of oil and allow to simmer in it’s own juices – put  a lid on the pan to create water vapour, once cooked, drain 75% of juices and cut into small chunks, add a sauce, one sec – it’s called, andalouse here… just a spoon full and add some sultanas at the same time.

Fry the sauce a bit until it becomes thickened and almost burnt and stir meat. While this is going on, rustle up some veg, mushrooms, sweetcorn, runner beans and lightly shake with ground pepper. Return to the pan and melt some soft creamy cheese on the beef and serve. The end result is an effin scrumptious dinner, server with a glass of water or red wine. I haven’t finished yet.

You’ve still got leftover creamy cheese and sultanas, get the ready made pancakes out of the fridge or make your own, spread cheese at 3/4 mark, sprinkle sultanas and trickle honey, add walnuts if you really want to. Serve with a glass of milk or unlike me, ice cream. Retire to the lounge, watch telly or get back to work you lazy git. No wonder I’m getting fat, I hope my bank balance does this week too. Yes I had a fantastic Christmas thank you and the new year has kicked off, dragging me along with it kicking and screaming as others can and will no doubt attest. So not to deny a new start a new start I’ve tried to join in. The Christmas period has left me a little light money wise – as it should hohoho - despite selling heavily over the holiday period, gems such as giftland.co.uk and buya.co.uk were disposed of cheaply along with several other good names.

The good news is I am back catching – it was at a hefty cost to myself in arranging the deal early January but going forward it enables me to catch again and sell in the short term to recouperate the deal’s losses. In the current climate, no not the recession, the one where a girl receives all the attention, new ways have to be found to keep everyone happy including the business manager, the mortgage provider and not forgetting the landlord too.

The boxes are being ticked, caught up with mortgage, yes, paid nominet, yes, paid landlord, no but will when my tenant finally pays me… on a diet, yes not that I put on any weight over christmas, thank the Lord, the first Christmas in eight years that I haven’t, we ate enough, I was always full and I was happy, there’s a show of strength and happiness in itself. Joined a gym, yes, going to gym, kind of…

More good news, I finally found £170 to pay for that absurd Home Information Pack that you are required to have ‘commenced’ before you can market your house, so with that ordered Tuesday, estate agents have been instructed and away we go to save some more before this horrible government and its means and ways loses me more of my money. Hopefully the house will sell for a reasonable amount.

It’s a good job as retailing.org.uk didn’t really fit the story. As I was riding my horse drawn carriage through Bromley, BR1.co.uk postcode, my ears were suddenly pricked by gun fire and a foul mouthed man riding up fast behind. The carriage was pulled over and I clenched my valuable sunstones.co.uk jewellery to my chest. “stand and deliver” came the shout.

This was highwayrobbery.co.uk and in the BR1.co.uk area of all places. I shouted to the man that he should watch his words, he was swearing blind every few seconds and I carefully advised he should take up languagecourses.org.uk but before I could say another word, he had grabbed my sunstones.co.uk and was riding off into the distance, I dared to shout “I know myrights.co.uk” but by then it was far too late.

I’m off to look at today’s list and go to sleep, need to be at the gym for ten.
