Well Court at Corfe Castle, Dorset will be a fantasy realised upon arrival. A majestic nine bedroom property that while it’s not a stately home can certainly be considered the next best thing. Especially when the building began its life while Henry VIII was on the thrown. Don’t worry, you can use the bathroom he’s not there any more.
Even if he was there’s plenty of toilets to make use of with five bathrooms, four of which are en suite. The fifth or first is for all guest use and is situated at the rear Hall of the ground floor. When Squillions discovers a property such as Well Court and Cottage besides Corfe Castle in Dorset I know at least that while the British exported their architectural desires across the Commonwealth, some remain embedded on English soil and Purbeck stone which is from Dorset is by far the most alluring historically.

And Dorset, DORSET! You don’t get to be more English than being brought up in Dorset, do you? Even if it’s where you go to retire you’ll become more English every day. Attacked for centuries by pirates and invading navies and armies, they have some spirit I can assure you. I hear derision abound from Yorkshire and Cornwall for such comments but if you want to milk a cow, enjoy a local pub shut in, a roaring fire, a sandy coastline and see some historic sights, the South West of England certainly has its offerings.
This is a Grade II listed property which means it has historical importance and cannot be adapted too much which is a great thing for the general public. Being so close to Corfe Castle itself you can well imagine how integral it has been to the community for the past 400 years. In fact it was originally four separate buildings, including a Chapel which most in the local area would have visited especially with residents converting to Christianity.
Your Self Catering Dorset Cottage Holiday
Well Court from the outside looks akin to a terraced cottage, it’s not. The property is as magical and deceiving as the Harry Potter train station platform, once you gain entry you will be overwhelmed by its grandeur and be impressed by the high quality furnishings and fixtures. Which include Oak flooring and a most impressive fitted kitchen with AGA.
A large hall way begins to inform of this cottage’s status in England, this is your first opportunity to hang your coat and use the lavatory after your drive to the Dorset coast. Larger than life staircases take you to each level of Well Court with a particularly short drop to the kitchen and breakfast room, a cute and memorable daily journey that will be indelible.
Another room you’ll find yourself partaking in feasts and entertainment as a large party will be the Dining Room, a large table fit for a King seats 14 and is overseen by two large crystal tipped chandeliers. Accompanied by a roaring Purbeck stone fireplace, a library and a piano for melodic classical music or a rendition of Candle in the Wind should Elton John be invited.
Well Court has a supremely elegant drawing room, spacious with large and comfortable sofas with pouffe. There is no reliance on archaic fireplaces for warmth in the colder nights, there is full central heating throughout the property and the second smaller cottage. With patio door exit to the garden people can go to and fro at leisure or simply gaze into the expansive arena with Corfe Castle in the background.
With such a large opportunity for occupancy, people need to associate with the entire family, if it’s a reunion of sorts, or get away from the extended relations to be with their own partner and children. This is possible thanks to a variety of seating not only in the bedrooms, but on the patio and garden, the kitchen and especially the Snug.
Accordingly, a cozy little room that fits two sofas around a fireplace and telly with French doors to the garden. Enabling children to come and go while adults play video games and reminisce over their own childhood. Of course the littluns and the teenagers can escape everyone else thanks to wifi broadband being enabled across the Well Court & Cottage property. Though these 16th century walls need a booster for complete coverage.
You will also unearth a special place on the upper floor, connecting all the bedrooms is an upper landing termed the Gallery Landing. An area for relaxation with sofa and desk and views over the garden. This is also where you’ll find six of the bedrooms. The Master Suite, two doubles, a single and two twins. As stated in other articles, please do ensure guests don’t fight over the room by ensuring you get the Master Suite first… diplomacy is overrated.

The gardens are equally impressive. Situated to the rear is a very special place that is straight out of Alice In Wonderland. A dining table where you can await all the characters for jovial banter and evening drinky-poos.
Matched by raised fire pit and a Barbecue Grill enabling all to succumb to outdoor pursuits of the gourmet nature. Throw on a cow or lamb, a couple of chickens and deer and tuck into a Dorset style banquet. Or if you’re of the veggie kind, chuck on a few spuds and avocados and eat to your heart’s content.
